This is just one of over 9,000 recipes we've collected since early 1996. Many of these recipes have been passed down from family member to family member and then shared with friends and then, with SecretRecipes.com. When it comes to recipes, the real secret is that all of our recipes always have been, and always will be free!
- Put 3 cups water (not included in list) into outer pot. Bring to a boil. Put all ingredients in inner pot and set on outer pot. Bring that to a boil. Cover and let steam 20 minutes.
- If the cooked mixture is still too moist, just let it keep sitting over the hot water when you remove the pot from the heat. You will eventually get a crusty layer if you forget to remove it.
- You can vary the seasonings as desired. If you have more time, you can use same recipe with brown rice and green lentils (I like to add allspice to this combination). Actually, any combinations of grains and legumes that cook in about the same Amount of time would work.
